week 3 reading task

While I initially found the academic paper wordy and complicated, after applying the skills I gained from the first two texts I found it much easier to understand and retain. I was surprised by the outdatedness of the journal in terms of when it was written but how applicable and beneficial it is to today's students. The text is dynamic in terms of the target audience, it is helpful to both college professors and how to teach their students while also being helpful to students themselves, showing meaning behind the literacy skills they are taught.

I found it extremely helpful to apply the ideas I learnt from the first two texts and had a totally different, more efficient, reading experience from past assignments. Skimming through the journal gave me an initial understanding of what the text was about and made it easier to reread in detail. Constantly asking questions also proved beneficial, I found myself to be more engaged and was able to stay focused on the reading as I was asking internal questions about the text. Taking brief notes aided me a lot too in my understanding, not only could I rapidly reference back if I forgot what a word meant or an important piece of information, it also reminded me I am very much someone who learns by writing, I will certainly be implementing this skill in future reading assignments.

In terms of challenges, I think the aspect I struggled with most was the new words I encountered in the journal. There were many phrases I had to look up to be able to continue reading with understanding. This substantially elongated the time this reading assignment took me, writing down these definitions proved helpful as if I forgot a meaning and encountered the word again I could quickly reference back.

In conclusion, the passage, in my opinion, was quite difficult but with a useful skillset was turned into quite an engaging and educational experience.

  1. To begin with my feedback, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this blog post about active reading. My favorite part of your blog post was when you said what you had learned from the journal, with the skills you implemented. I liked when you were honest about the task being quite difficult but used it in a way to enhance your skillset and ended up turning into quite engaging and educational experience for you.
I think you did very well overall, I feel you did a wonderful job from reading your blog. If I was to ask a question it would be, what was the name of the journal for other viewers to know what your thoughts are based on, and when was the paper written?
I have learned from your blog, that using helpful ways such as skimming instead of reading the whole journal is beneficial and taking brief notes throughout reading can help when you forget an important piece of information.
What if you add in the reference for the journal so other viewers can know what your thoughts are based on, overall great job on your blog!

As I was reading this feedback, I genuinely enjoy reading this post about Active Reading. I genuinely enjoy reading this blog post as it seems that you have insights about this topic however, I would suggest that you back your points with sources to make it seem that you know what you are talking about so referencing and citing sources is essential just to also avoid plagiarism. As well as you didn't address your audience, so maybe try doing that for example saying "hello everyone..", "Today I will be discussing...", "Thanks for tuning in" to list a few phrases to really make your readers included. I also liked how honest you were when talking about the task being challenging but you have used it in such a way that it enhances your skillset and ended up turning into quite engaging and educational experience for you. My question is what was the name of the journal for other viewers to know what your thoughts are based on, and when was the paper written? I have learned that using helpful ways such as skimming instead of reading the whole journal is beneficial and taking brief notes throughout reading can help when you forget an important piece of information

  3. To begin with my review of the above blog, I would like to say that the layout and structure of the blog is very good and it enables the reader to flow as you’re reading it. I like how the writer referred to how beneficial the journal could be to not only people during the time it was released, but also students in today’s world. The writer outlines that the journal can also be helpful for professors looking to improve their teaching methods. I also like how the writer describes their experience with reading the text and I will definitely be implementing some of the methods they used when doing future reading tasks. Although the writer found the task difficult due to the complex vocabulary contained in the text, they learned a lot and this is very beneficial for the future. Some questions I would have for the writer would be what is the name of the journal and when was it released? I have learned about new techniques to help read through large amounts of content such as skimming through the text and taking small notes. A suggestion I would make would be to include a reference list and maybe some pictures to give the blog a more polished look.

  4. Hi, Ryan, I really enjoyed reading your review, I thought it was quite insightful and I enjoyed how you brought your personal experiences, saying how you learn by writing and I think many people can relate to that topic. I enjoyed how you also gave a personal opinion in saying that the task was difficult but it being difficult helped you learn. The blog was laid out well and really easy to read and felt like there was a flow in reading it. I enjoyed that you said that the passage was quite difficult as many people who may read it can relate but then go back to your blog and read on how to use the skillsets and in doing that, that would help them have the same engaging and educational experience. If I were to make a suggestion for the future I would ask that you use some images to the topic and that you make a reference list.
